Comments: I grew up in Michigan listening to shows at Sherwood Forest and found Catfish Hodge around Detroit many years ago. Recently I put together a version of The Boogie Man Gonna Git Ya and been playing it all across the land. It is one of the most requested songs we play...Thank You Catfish Hodge! Not just for the song but years of influential music that shaped my own style. Hope to wee you around Virginia some time...

Saw you back in the '70s in Cleveland and was blown away. Bought all those early albums.
Great to see that you are still making music.

Comments: I remember seeing you way (ok -- way, way) back at the Warner Theater. I think you opened for Little Feat. I do remember someone in the audience playing harmonica while you were performing. Whatever you said from the stage shut the guy up & a great performance continued.
Oh yes, aside from picking up your cds at your shows, how does someone order from your web site?

Comments: Hey Fellow Fish Heads!
Who'd a thunk it? Just got a long sought after copy of "Get Down" from Amazon.com today. I grew in SW Detroit & Lincoln Park. Dug Catfish on WABX, the Eastown, Ann Arbor festivals and so on. Ain't heard this stuff in over 30 years. Love Lights floored me. Can't wait to get over to Whitesburg, KY, next week where I host the Ramblin' Road Revue every other week on WMMT, a community radio station where volunteer DJs play what ever we want. Gonna play some Catfish for sure. Check it out.

Comments: Fish, turn on your 'wayback' machine to P.B Scott's Blowing Rock, NC from '77-'81. Yep, I was the manager. ( who always had to go search the parking lot cars to find you during the breaks).
We had a P.B. Scott's reunion at another club this last weekend. 250 folks showed up and I went through the whole 6 dozen T-shirts I had reprinted for the occasion.
Hope you are doing well. Keep in touch. I am the program coordinator for entertainment at Appalachian State U. and book some gigs on the side.

Comments: Hey Catfish,
Glad to see you're still going strong.. Lets see, I was a student at the University of MD back in '76-77 when a buddy and I went to the Warner Theater in DC to see Bonnie Raitt. You were the opening act and needless to say you blew me away. I loved your act more than Bonnie's. The music was great!
Yeah, I miss those old FM radio stations, we had some good ones in Baltimore. WKTK comes to mind. 'KTK become WQSR and that was the begining of the end..is was the early to mid '80s and BIG RADIO was coming into the picture. But we still had WHFS which was a weak station in Bethesda, MD. Now, 'HFS is a corporate monster broadcasting on the same frequency (105.7) as my old beloved and defunct WKTK.
Thank God for WAMU (88.5). Their weekend programming of Blue grass, country, and old Blues is refreshing.
Take care,
Bill

Comments: Catfish, we met at the Blues in the 'burg at Fredericksburg this last Saturday, and I was absolutley blown away by your set. While I cited your outstanding rendition of Little Feat's Roll Roll Um Easy, your original material was equally superb, if not better. I've had your CD, Twenty Years, in my car non-stop for the past 2 days.

Simply outstanding.

Comments: When I was a teen growing up in DETROIT (Remember the Michigan Palace, the Paladium and the Grande Ballroom?), I heard Bob "Catfish" Hodge for the first time on WABX (played by either Danny Carlisle or Frawley). Many years later, I find myself in search of the original tunes from the very first "CATFISH" LP (blue cover with a cartoon drawing of a catfish) that came out sometime in the late 60's or early 70's, especially "Boogieman Gonna Git Ya" and "300 Pound Fat Mama". Totally outasite! Any chance you may know where I can get them?

Comments: Catfish - I know you won't remember this but I met you, your mother and brother in Detroit in 1970. My band was playing at a club (I think the name was the 747 club) and your Mom and brother (Dallas?) introduced themselves and inquired about our union status. If I remember correctly your Mom was the musicians union rep in Detroit. We jammed with you at another club sorry I don't remember the name at the moment, just that it had a barbers chair in the lobby. Damn those were good times, I just wish I could remember them better.

Anyway just thought I'd drop a line and let you know I stole a number of licks off of you that I still use today.

It's good to see you still doing your thang'

Comments: I'm from Boston but was in DC this past weekend. I knew I'd be missing out on some of my favorite music up here while on my trip to DC & was determined to catch something good Friday night. I found you & the guys were playing Friday and decided I would check it out. You guys were fantastic and went beyond any expectations I had. I had something of a magical weekend in DC - not the place you'd expect such I admit - and your band and the tunes definitely played a part. You deserved a MUCH bigger response at the end of the show, but that goes without saying. If I'm ever in the mid-atlantic again, i'll be looking for you, and if you ever venture up here come to Harper's Ferry! You will be well received.

Cheers - Matt

Comments: Let me start by saying hi to Bob. I really dig all the music he put out over all the years it all rocks. I'm 40 years old living in Toledo, Ohio and been listing to Catfish sinse I was about 20 years old. From the time I first heard Boogie Man I was hooked. An old friend of mine named Joe Baden who died at the age of 17 years old ( way too young to go ) turned me on to Boogie Man in early 1980's. Man what a killer tune ! I recently picked up Catfish's Get Down disc, Eyewitness Blues disc, Boogie Man Gonna Get Ya album & Boogie Man on a 45 all off of e-bay for GREAT prices. I've been looking forever for anything by Bob for my own collection. My biggest thing that I would like to do is to see Catfish Hodge perform live in concert. I see he's living in Virginia somewhere. What is the chance he would come back to his home town area and play some gigs ? Like maybe the Toledo area ? This would be a GREAT dream come true. All I can say is Please keep rockin' brother & come play in Toledo, Ohio. Your friend, Ron Klatt

Comments: Catfish it is great to finally find your web page. I have been enjoying your music for a few years now thanks to my friend Chip O'brien's introduction to you. I believe you know Chip as an old friend also, he may have even accompanied you on guitar as well. I don't know if you heard, but Chip suffered a severe stroke the end of Aug 04, and has been in hospitals and rehab centers since then. He has lost almost all use of his left side, but with faith and therapy, we all are praying he gets some of it back. He is in an extended care facility in AA Co. Md. called Future Care. I try to see him every week or two so he can pick up my spirits, he never lost his sense of humor. Some of his friends and band members are planning a charity benefit concert for him in April to help raise some money for his family's needs. Well, Chip told me about catfishpond.com on my last visit, and asked me to send his greetings to you, and I'm glad he did, because now I can stay more up-to-date on the adventures of the cat man. My best regards to you, and please don't ever stop making people happy with your music.

Comments: Hey Mr. Hodge! I saw you for the first time last night at First Night in Old Town Warrenton and absolutely loved it....I'm the girl with dark curly hair who you thought was leaving but was really just getting a closer seat! Alas, I wasn't alive to see you perform in the 70's, but I'm a definite fan now. When you played Oscar Tio, I cried...a song hasn't made me cry like that in a long, long time. Thanks.

Comments: I remember seeing Catfish Hodge when I was 18 yrs old sometime around spring 1979 at the Stanhope House in Stanhope, NJ. I was just beginning to go to bars and listen to music that you couldn't get on the top 40 stations. I was very excited to see him having heard that he had occasionaly opend at the Filmore East which was by that time already closed for about eight years (which was eons given how far music had moved in those eight years). Anyway, being rather young and ignorant, I asked him during a break if he'd ever heard of a guy named Howlin' Wolf and if he could play anything by him. Well, he gave me the most generously patient look and said, "sure I've heard of him, don't think we've got him in our set list tonight. Enjoy the show."

I really enjoyed the show and waited to see him come through town again. Well that was over 25 years ago and I'm now living in Europe missing all the great things you could see and get into in smokey bars like the Stanhope House used to be. Glad to see from the website that he's still going. Best of luck and hope to be surpirsed some night and find that I'm in the vicinity of a Catfish Hodge show again.

If you are interested I'll send you a CD. It is great to see you are going strong. (Maybe you remember me, I sat at the table nearest the band with a big portable recorder sitting on the floor and a stereo condensor mic clamped to the table. I was also pretty hammered and yelled a lot. Don't remember me? Gee.)

After much searching, I found it on an album which also contained your "Boogie Man". Truth to tell, I played your song multiple times before I got on to the rest of them! This will be an added bonus for my Colorado friend once he gets down to listening. Anyway, glad you have a website, as I was hungry for more!

It was a great pleasure to assist to DVD record your performance last night in Herndon for HCTV-23, Cable Access in Herndon, VA.
We should have the show edited by next week and replaying at various times during the future.
Please check our website for HCTV-23 out at www.hctv.org where we have a link for streaming video for a high speed video cable connection.
On behalf of the crew of HCTV, we appreciate your
bringing "Memphis Blues" to Herndon and HCTV viewers.
Take Care Bob, and Best Wishes to you and the Band as you continue your musical careers.
I really enjoyed operating the front camera(from the guy in the Blue Shirt)
Your CD music I bought sounds better than our audio, but it is MONO. Sorry about that, we will try to get it better in the future.

He was having a hard time of it and broke a string and all. Then some jerk yells out, "get the show on the road." The 'Fish is always cool so he explains to the heckler that the show has been on the road and he just needed to catch up. Well now, the big man has everybody's attension and finishes out w/ a super show. Thanks for the toones, man. Glad to hear your'e livin' on the ridge. Down the road... Donnie

Catfish, I started listening to your music back in '72. Saw you live at the Masonic in Detroit, opening for the Guess Who. I own & still listen to a couple of your albums on "WESTBOUND RECORDS"..."Boogie Man's Gonna Get Ya" & "Dinosaurs & Alleycats". You do a killer version of the Beatles "I want you(She's so heavy)". "Heartbeat of the Street" is a classic, also. "Boogie Man" is the all time favorite. Used to hear it on "CKLW"(remember that!?). Special ordered the album from Harmony House in Hamtramack. One of my better sound investments! Glad to see that you're still "doin' the do"! The "boogie man" taught you well!

Bob, er, Catfish, Sorry to hear about that virus. I think my computer had a similar problem. I installed McAfee antivirus software and haven't had a problem since I did. Anyway, I am still determined to make it to one of your gigs. I have heard some of your music and must admit you made the right career choice. I still recognize your voice from way back when, but it doesn't detract from the high quality of your creations. Hey Catfish, I finally got around to seeing you play this summer at a free show at a shopping center in Columbia. You were great! I'd like to order your 20 Years CD, and I'd also like to order another if it has the following song. At your gig in Columbia, one of the last three songs you played was a beautiful bluesy love song. If you can remember what it was, or could guess or narrow it down to a couple of tunes, I'd like to get a copy of that. Thanks so much, and God bless. Ken

Hey Fish Heads, sorry but a glitch caused all the guest notes from the past five years to go away. Actually it was a virus. So it's time to sign in again! In the process I lost all of your e-mail address's, well most of them. It's getting cold up in the mountains, frost on the ground this morning. I don't mind though and actually enjoy the freshness of it all in the air! For those of you, who keep asking me when I'm going to do a new CD, I'm writting once again and looking to go into the studio and create a brand new bunch of fish tunes. I'll keep you posted on how it's coming along.
