Dear Diary,

April 20, 2008...

It's the GoGirls music jam at Union Jack's in Bethesda and did we ever have fun. Annie Sidley and her husband, Steve, Laura Baron and Max and I perform. We had much fun even though it poured rain the entire day and night. This will be a monthly girl throwdown (boys are allowed, too) and should be a good time on a Sunday night.

April 12, 2008...

I head up to my pals', Ed and Tobi, rent party up in the beautiful countryside north of Baltimore. Loads of bands (I got to sing a tune with a fine bunch of fellas before the nuptials began), friends, beer and chow. Hold up...Ed and Tobi get hitched in front of us all! One of the sweetest weddings I've ever attended. I also managed to do a little shoppin' while at the party because they have their "showshack" open. Ed (www.forkman.net) makes incredible jewerly from antique silver flatware and Tobi slings the pottery. I had to contribute to the honeymoon for Pete's sake! (Just who is Pete, anyway?)

April 5, 2008...

Max and I spend the day working on our tunes for the new album and complete the following titles: Just Kiss Her, Waking Up in Texas, Only One in Love, Kiss You at Hello, and Rustin' in the Rain. It's all very exciting, and I can't wait to get crackin' on recording and for folks to hear them! Album titles swirl around in my head... anyone have any ideas?

February, 2008...

I head up to NYC to hook up with my pal, Michelle Walker, to have a long birthday weekend. She took me to see the musical, Curtains, with David Hyde Pierce of Frasier fame. It was a hoot and wonderful production. Then we head over to an Irish pub for dinner, then we hit 21, then Rockwood Music Hall, The Living Room (Norah Jones was there hangin out) and end at the Oak Room in the famed the famed Algonquin Hotel. Dang, we know how to get around...

Janine and Cameron Mathison

January, 2008 . . .
We had a great time as always performing at the XM Radio/Nissan Stage at the Washington Car and Auto Show in January. I also met Cameron Mathison of All My Children (and don't forget last year's Dancing With The Stars). Yep, he's easy on the eyes in person. I slipped him a copy of my CD and I'm just waitin' for that big phone call to let me know how kick ass it is!

Could it be Red Suits Me?
I walked the Red Carpet and got my photo snapped. But that's not all.

I also got a wide-eyed hug from Grammy nominee and country/bluegrass songwriter, Jim Lauderdale at one of the many partys during Grammy week in Los Angeles. I can't tell you any more than that! What happens in LA stays in LA!

Me with Grammy winning producer John Alagia who told me no way was John Mayer having a lunch date with Lindsay Lohan earlier that day when we saw her in a restaurant in which we were dining on Sunset Boulevard. She caused quite the crowd of papparazzi and bad rumors!!

Janine and Jason Alexander

Hollywood Holy Hell
My first full day in Hollywood and look what happens. . .

Holy hell, I thought he was dead but NO!!! Rip Taylor is alive and well and raising all kinds of trouble. I met him while attending the gathering for Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara when they received their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Michelle and I also got to pose with Anne Meara . . . I know, it looks as if I'm sleeping on her shoulder but so what I'm still getting a picture with her! It's a long story but we then get invited into the private luncheon being held at the Roosevelt Hotel! And then we met Jason Alexander. I told him I had been accused of having the "George Costanza" wallet. He asked where I keep it and said it resides in my purse! He said it doesn't count if it isn't in a pocket! So HA! And that was my first day.

West Side Cafe
We had a ton of fun with Tom Gillam and Joe Carroll at the WestSide Cafe in Frederick, Maryland in mid-January. Here Tom, Max and I are sharing a tune. Can't wait to do it again!

Nashville just has everythang!
Still recuperating from being in Nashville at the Americana Music Conference. The biggest thrill was meeting Jon Bon Jovi. I'll never be the same . . . sigh. Oh yes, and seeing the pig salt and pepper shakers doin' it doggie style in a souvenir shop window! Nashville just has everythang!

Johnny is attempting to show his tattoo also, but I just don't see it . . . hmmm

A Night with Southside Johnny
Getting to stroll up the ramp to the Birchmere stage was one unforgettable experience as well as seeing my name on the marquee with Southside Johnny's. This show ranks number one in my long list of gigs. The crowd was so welcoming — maybe it helped that I did a Springsteen song?! — and let us warm them up for main event.

J9's Band opens for Little Feet

Little Feet, Big Day
Opening for Little Feat in front of 4-5,000 people was pretty incredible. We made many new friends that day and it was one to remember. I even autographed a frisbee! All the Little Feat guys as well as the roadies were so nice — Here's me and Paul Barrere!

Post-Wammie
Whew! The Wammies were spectacular this year! Here I am with my friend Ruthie Logsdon of Ruthie and the Wranglers. Ruthie took home a few awards — congrats! Alas, I did not this year but I had just as much fun performing one of our original tunes, It Should Be Me, from the new album. Save Me From Myself will be eligible for the Wammie next year. . . so watch out!

Also, the photos on the left were taken by Dan Rosenstein.

Janine & Bobby
"Bare Essentials"
Max and I had an absolute blast opening for Bobby Bare, Jr. at IOTA on February 23rd. The place was packed and we made many new fans!! Bobby rocked IOTA — I especially love his tune Valentine. . . "Valentine, I killed my valentine . . ." la la la!

Westside, Definitely.
Our first time at the Westside Cafe in Frederick, Maryland, was nothing short of awesome. The house was packed, and we had a great time performing for the masses We had a great time performing for the "masses."

The cafe is a wonderful listening room and Rod Deacey, the owner, treated us like super stars. The room hosts many touring acts so next time you're in Frederick, stop in and have a drink and relax while listing to good music.

We love you, Frederick!

Tommy, Max & Me
Our First Night
This was our third time at First Night Alexandria and it was just as fun as ever! We performed as a trio — me, Max Evans and Tommy Hannigan on bass — at Imagine Artwear (incredible clothing and gifts all made by US artisans!) and the place was packed for all of our sets. We had a blast! See if you can find yourself in the picture! Thanks, Alexandria!

Janine with Mavis Staples

Janine with "Elvis"

Mike Holden, Michelle Walker, Ruthie Logsdon and Me.
The Fortunate One
I am fortunate enough to have performed with some of the best musicians around and one of them was Steve Fordham, a wonderful keyboardist, who also happens to perform regularly with the one and only Mavis Staples. I saw Mavis perform for the first time at the Birchmere a while back and it was just awesome to say the least. I was able to meet her and she even invited me to sing a tune with her next time! I'll be waitin' with bells on, Mavis!

The first weekend in December belongs to Elvis and this year was no exception! I've been a part of The Night of 100 Elvises since the first show and it is one of my favorite weekends of the year. It is so much fun, so many Elvi, and so many beers! It's held at the Lithuanian Hall in Baltimore and is a benefit for Johns Hopkins Children's Center. If you haven't experienced this Elvis freakout - you haven't lived! Here's me and one of the crowd.

The release for Save Me From Myself on November 6th was so much fun I could hardly stand it! Here's me and Eric Brace of Last Train Home performing our duet of Ain't Got You. My good pal, Michelle Walker, was there to help celebrate and sat in on a couple of tunes along with Ruthie Logsdon and Mike Holden opened the show with a great acoustic set. It went by so fast and is a bit of a blur - but I just had a big ass smile on my face all night long!

Janine and Delbert McClinton
Right Place, Right Time
Standing in the right place at the right time pays off! At a benefit for drummer Big Joe Maher at The State Theatre, the surprise guest is Delbert. Many bands have paid their tribute that evening, including me, and I'm standing in the wings watching the show. Delbert asks Tom Principato to come join him and then he spies me and motions for me to come on out, too. I say — don't know the song — he doesn't care! He's telling me the words in my ear and I can't hear but I fake my way thru it. . . Then he does "Givin' It Up For Your Love" and I say to myself thank god I know this one. . .
