Without funds, some student clubs say they cant function

by Sarah Meehan

http://e2ma.net/go/7039154031/208537104 ... -1.2184324

"...Students from the University Help Center, WMUC Radio (editor's note: the University of Maryland's campus radio station) and MaryPIRG, among others, will make an appearance at tonight's Student Government Association meeting to contest their slashed budgets, since student activities fees are their only source of funding."

SGA Grants, Then Retracts Additional WMUC Funding
http://e2ma.net/go/7039154031/208537104 ... s_to_w.php

"During a marathon session last night, the University of Maryland's Student Government Association granted WMUC an additional $6,000 in funds, only to revoke the money hours later due to a $20,000 miscalculation...The beleaguered campus radio station, which initially received a paltry $7,000 in funding from the SGA earlier this week, appealed the student government's decision to receive more funds in order to pay for vital costs such as Internet bills and FCC licenses to keep the station afloat. The station is now in jeopardy of shutting down, as it requires at least twice of what was originally granted by the SGA. The station will ultimately have to rely on donations in order to keep the station broadcasting over terrestrial and Internet airwaves. Donations can be made via the WMUC Support Fund."

April 20, 2011
http://e2ma.net/go/7039154031/208537104 ... 4472.story

"The following is a guest post from Ian Rogers, CEO of direct to fan artist platform Topspin. He previously was VP and General Manager of Yahoo! Music and Yahoo! Video...As digital emerged, the labels were faced with a harsh reality: over the decades, consumers began to prefer singles. There was no economical way to get them, so we bought full albums to get the 1-2 songs we really wanted. We wanted the album unbundled, but we had no choice. With the emergence of alternative distribution (like Napster and then iTunes many years later), the latent demand for singles was unearthed and havoc ensued."

Tape2MP3 may look like a regular cassette player, but with one important difference, a nifty USB port that connects directly to a computer. "
