"In the great streaming royalty debate, the focus has been on tiny royalty rates per stream. Artists are up in arms, many are opting out of streaming services, and the noise and debate has been growing louder. Lost in that noise is a voice that is seldom heard: that of the record companies. Final Curtain

Eric Wilfong (1948-2014)

Eric Wilfong had courageously fought cancer for several years.

Eric played music in the Washington DC area actively from about 1964 to the early 1970s. He was best known in the 1960s as the lead singer and bass player for the Velours, who won the Wheaton Youth Center 1965 Battle of the Bands, the story of which played significantly in the movement to have the Center designated as historic. From the early 1970s to 1990 Eric had retired from performing. In 1990 Tom Carrico’s parents hosted a surprise 40th birthday party for Tom and at their request a band was put together that included Eric. From that party band the Blue Dog Band was formed, which had an 11 year run until 2001. After that Eric, Les Hatley, Eddie Becker and Ralph Brown teamed up as The Shakers, which was Eric's last band. The Shakers recorded one CD, called "It's About Time", which enjoyed more than just local radio airplay.

Benny Beats (1979-Dec. 10, 2013)

Benny Beats, otherwise known as Benjamin Kovaleski, died last month at age 34.

"Ben was a well-respected licensed hospital pharmaceutical representative by day. By night, he was “DJ Benny Beats,” spinning at some of Washington, D.C.’s most prominent night clubs, along with holding a 15-year residency at Wibs Bar in Shippensburg."
