Local Notes
- Bob Dawson of Bias Recording in Springfield, VA received
a Grammy nomination for Best Children's Record, along with co-producer
John McCutcheon for McCutcheon's release Four Seasons:Summersongs.
- Tanya Blount is touring nationally in the gospel musical
Sneaky along with national recording artist Howard Hewitt,
Margaret Avery (The Color Purple), Charnelle Brown
(A Different World) and Tommy Morgan, Jr., (The Young and
The Restless). The show will stop in Washington, D.C. at the
Lincoln Theater on May 8.
- World Folk Music Association (WFMA ) has joined cyberspace
with a new home page at http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/Chuck_Morse/wfma.htm.

- The Baltimore Blues Society has changed their phone number to

- 6 lbs 14oz, WAMA volunteer, Kelly Marie Capone, born
February 5, 1996 to parents Maurice and Liz Capone. Maurice is
a member of the Furys and Liz has worked with WAMA for many years
on the Crosstown Jam, WAMA News and the Wammies.
- Washington Project for the Arts, one of the oldest alternative
art organizations in the United States, will be restructured to
become a new program of the Corcoran Gallery of Art.
- R&B vocalist Annie Sidley gave birth to Sean Alexander,
February 7, 1996.
- ProTix Mid-Atlantic announced that all Waxie Maxie's
locations have joined the ProTix Outlet network.
- Big Black Nun will transmit live music to Manchester,
England via the Internet. The concert will be held at the Muddy
River Boatworks, April 19.
- Darkangeles producer Arlin Godwin recently signed
a contract with DSM Producers, Inc., a New York publishing house.
- Pete & Maura Kennedy's River Of Fallen Stars
has earned Finalist Status from NAIRD in the Adult Contemporary
Category. Also finalists are Reggie Workman for Cerebral
Caverns in the Mainstream Jazz category, Chesapeake in
the Folk category, and Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer in the
Children's Music category. Results will be announced at the Omni
Inner Harbor Hotel in Baltimore, MD on May 25th during the 24th
annual NAIRD Convention.
- Startrak Records has announced that Quiet As Kept,
a five-member band, have written a song targeting violence and
drugs. The song, Peace To The Streets, deglamorizes the
negative influences in today's urban communities. Quiet As Kept
are currently scheduling a twenty day tour targeting schools and
inner city communities. A percentage of the proceeds from the
recording will go towards positive community programs.
