Route One South Music Conference
Route One South Music Conference and Festival will be held May
31, June 1 & 2 at the Downtown Marriott in Richmond, VA. A three
day gathering of music industry reps and artists, the event will
focus on Mid-Atlantic talent and will include a day long seminar
and workshops on such topics as Hands On Recording and Equipment
Repair & Maintenance. Panels include Tour Booking, Self Management,
Production, and Publicity/Promotion. The conference will end with
a vintage music and clothing show on the Trade Show floor of the
Marriott. Artists interested in participating in the Showcase must
have their applications in by April 20. Showcase venues include
Moondance, Cobblestone Brewery, Twisters, Underground Railroad,
The Hole In The Wall, The City Cafe, AllyKatz and Buffalo Joes.

NAIRD
The National Association of Independent Record Distributors (NAIRD)
Convention will meet in Baltimore, Maryland May 22 through 26 at
the Omni Inner Harbor Hotel. Hundreds of Indie labels and distributors
will be on hand for this annual event. For more information call

Songwriting: From Creation to Contract
This summer, SAW President Jordan Musen teaches a six-week songwriting
course at the Smithsonian titled: "Songwriting: From Creation to
Contract." Guest speakers include Cleve Francis and Jay Rosenthal.
The first class on July 10 focuses on finding the creative voice
that lies within. SAW & WAMA members receive Smithsonian Resident
Member rate of $78, down from $123 for the general public. Call
