Local Notes
- Acoustic Outlet, a new band of seasoned musicians Dede
Wyland, Chris Stifel, Mike Munford, Akira
Otsuka and Fred Smith have begun performing in the
Washington area.
- Northern Virginia will soon be home to a new custom label which
will have Salt N Pepa signed on for a long-term recording
committment. More on this later.
- Drummer Jack O'Dell has departed the Hula Monsters
and teamed up with the likes of Bill Kirchen & Too
Much Fun.
- John Stanard has a new band, Blue Monkey. Joining
John are George Walsh, Jeff Brown and Ken McChord. Blue Monkey
specializes in alternative, classic and original rock and roll.

- Richard Waysdorf will chair the reforming WAMA Education
Committee. Planning for workshops in the Fall will begin soon.
Leave a message on WAMA voicemail if you are interested in working
on the committee.
- Marrianne Moskowitz will chair the CD Committee. The committee
will start planning for DCCD7. Stay tuned.
- Sherry Fornoff has joined the WAMA Board. Sherrie works
at Studio One Artists and has been very active on the Crosstown
Jam, The Wammies, and the Education committees.
- Singer/songwriter Cindy Geary heads to Nashville in October
to perform and judge the best unsigned bands contest for Tennessee's
bicentennial. Other scheduled judges include Terry Choate,
TNN's Shelly Mangram and Naomi Judd. Geary just
won her third ASCAP Special Award for Popular Music.
- Stentor's Michael Greenhall has been chosen to appear
in Modern Drummer Magazine and the Musicians Exchange Magazine
in a salute to the world's Not Yet Famous Drummers.
- Blues guitarist Tom Principato has moved back to the
area from Austin. Welcome back, Tom.
- Gail Bliss has the title role in a theatrical production
about WAMA Hall of Famer Patsy Cline at the Kenny Rogers
Theater in Branson, MO. On her days off Gail has been recording
a cast album in Nashville. Owen Bradley (Patsy's original producer)
has been helping on the sessions.
- Hazmat recently performed at Estonia's Rock Summer Festival
on the Baltic Sea. They were the only band from the United States
to perform there, and shared the bill with Simple Minds,
Mike and the Mechanics, and other European acts.
- Caglo Mac of McLean will be opening for John Denver
and America during an upcoming tour of China. They just returned
from a five-month tour of the Southwestern United States.
- RAD records has merged with RAD entertainment.
In addition to producing recorded music, the company provides
artist management, publishing, and video services.
- The Furies will perform Saturday, August 12 at CBGBs
in New York City.
